Kalo is a fixture of the Night Market, a man so deeply woven into its existence that most people cannot remember a time before him. Officially, he is the market's technician, mechanic and repairman, but in reality he is much more than that. Nobody knows exactly how old Kalo is. Some say he is in his late fifties, others insist he is far older, but no one has ever been brave enough to ask. With a weathered face, salt-and-pepper beard, thick workman's hands and grease permanently embedded into his skin, Kalo looks like he has spent a lifetime fixing things that should have been left broken. Tool belts hang from his waist, old jackets cling to his shoulders, and despite his rough appearance, his kind eyes reveal a man people trust implicitly. Known for his short fuse and sharp tongue, Kalo has little patience for fools, yet when something important breaks, he is always the first person people seek out. Generators, radios, transport vehicles, security systems, market stalls, if it can be repaired, Kalo can usually bring it back to life. Over the years he has helped countless people, earning favours from nearly everyone who passes through the Night Market. Many owe him debts, though he rarely calls them in. Beneath the gruff exterior is a dependable presence who has quietly kept the market alive through some of its darkest years. His personal philosophy is simple and often repeated to those ready to give up: "Nothing is broken. It just hasn't found the right hands yet."
